Annual Plant Sale
Don’t miss our annual plant sale. This year, the second weekend in May. We will have all the plants you need for your 2026 garden. Vegetables, tomatoes, herbs, flowers, perennials, and more all started in the very best Vermont Compost and organically grown. Saturday, May 9th from 2-6pm and Sunday, May 10th from 10-4pm. We can’t wait to help your garden grow!
Dinner on the Farm with Oak Park
Join us for dinner on the farm with Chef Ian Robertson of Des Moines’ Oak Park on Sunday, May 31. It is always a treat when we get to welcome Chef Ian and his team to the farm and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the season! Their incredible attention to details to the way they magically highlight our produce will help create a night you won’t forget. Be sure to grab a seat at the table! Tickets available April 1st.
Chef Ian Robertson’s fascination with food began in childhood while living abroad with his family in Malaysia, Scotland, Benin, and France, where exposure to vibrant markets and diverse cuisines sparked a lifelong curiosity about how cultures express themselves through food. He trained at Ferrandi Paris before working in renowned kitchens including The Fat Duck in Bray and Chicago’s two-Michelin-starred Tru, later holding leadership roles in Chicago, Iowa, and New York, including Executive Sous Chef at ABC Kitchen.
For the past two and a half years, Robertson has served as Executive Chef of Oak Park in Des Moines, where his refined, seasonal menus and ingredient-driven approach have helped cultivate a reputation for exceptional quality and thoughtful fine dining. Drawing on decades of experience in Michelin- and AAA Five Diamond-recognized kitchens, Robertson pairs technical precision with Midwestern sensibility, creating dishes that celebrate the seasons while making guests feel both inspired and at home.

Dinner on the Farm with Littleleaf Luncheonette
Join us on the farm Sunday, June 14th for dinner with the owners of Littleleaf Luncheonette of Waukee. The lunch scene in the metro area was recently elevated to a new level when Mallory and Ryan opened the doors to Littleleaf. Everything from the decor to the details in each dish reflect their passion for delicious, fresh and seasonal food. We stopped by for lunch this winter and immediately knew we had to bring them to the farm for a dinner this summer and we can’t wait! Tickets available April 1st!
Mallory Holt, an Iowa native, and Ryan Nicholson, originally from upstate New York, are the duo behind Littleleaf Luncheonette in Waukee. After six years of working side by side, they took the leap to build something of their own, rooted in quality, seasonality, and genuine hospitality. Inspired by their travels and driven by a deep respect for ingredients, they opened Littleleaf in October of 2025, creating a space where thoughtful sourcing and community meet at the table.

Chef Aaron Holt — owner of Doolittle Family Farm LLC and Catering by Doolittle Farm. A century-old family farm sits on 53 beautiful acres near Story City, where he grows an incredible array of seasonal fruits, vegetables, microgreens + edible flowers. His family has been tending this land since the late 1880s, and today his two daughters proudly represent the fifth generation to harvest its fields. Aaron’s mission is a special one: to restore the farm to the way it operated over 100 years ago, practicing regenerative agriculture + building a sustainable food future.
A self-taught chef with 20+ years in Iowa kitchens, Aaron launched his own business in 2017, crafting chef-inspired dinners that showcase the bounty of his farm. What began as intimate themed dinners has blossomed into a thriving, fast-growing catering company. He’s deeply committed to sourcing locally — proudly using Iowa-grown ingredients whenever possible — and stays inspired by emerging food trends, sustainability, and collaborating with chefs across the state.

Dinner on the Farm with Chef Grant Gillon featuring Calvin of The Good Butcher
Join us on the farm for dinner with Chef Grant Gillon. We love hosting Chef Grant as he always does an amazing job creating inventive and delicious dinners for our guests. This year we thought we would take this dinner to the next level by incorporating an interactive and educational experience by hosting butcher Calvin Schnucker, founder and head butcher of The Good Butcher in Des Moines. Guests will not only get to enjoy a plated meal but they will also learn about the art of butchery. Tickets available June 26th!
Chef Grant Gillon is an Iowa-based private chef and passionate advocate for local agriculture. Known for his bold flavors and refined technique, Grant rose to national recognition as the winner of MasterChef Season 13, showcasing his ability to blend creativity with heartland ingredients.
At the core of his cooking is a deep commitment to farm-to-table sourcing. Grant partners closely with Iowa farmers, dairies, and producers to build menus that celebrate the season and tell the story of the land. Each dish reflects his belief that great food starts with great relationships — from pasture to plate.
Calvin Schnucker is the founder and head butcher of The Good Butcher in Des Moines, Iowa. With nearly 20 years in the meat industry, he specializes in whole-animal butchery, house-made sausages, and traditional dry-cured charcuterie. Calvin is passionate about sourcing high-quality meats from local farms and bringing old-world butcher craftsmanship back to the neighborhood shop.

Join us on the farm Sunday, August 16th for dinner with Chef Andrew Hoffman of Hoffman Farm and Forage. If you love eating wild edibles then this is the dinner for you! Chef Andrew always incorporates food from his hikes in his dinners and we can’t wait to see what he prepares! Tickets available July 16th!
Andrew of Hoffmann Farm and Forage is a professional chef, wild forager, and diverse produce farmer. With over 17 years as a chef in the restaurant industry his focus aimed at locally sourced, sustainable, and in season Iowa ingredients. His passion is cultivating a strong community of local farmers & chefs with a desire to build connections to further develop the local food movement.
Andrew, his wife, Sarah, and son Luca operate a produce farm on his family farm just outside of story city where they are the 4th generation to tend the land. They sell produce and wild mushrooms direct to restaurants and at the Des Moines farmers Market.
Andrew also curates farm to table dinners in central Iowa creating seasonal locally sourced menus highlighting his produce and foraged mushrooms alongside sustainable Iowa ingredients. His menus are studded with the wild ramps, specialty produce, preserved ingredients, and choice proteins offering a true taste of Iowa.

Dinner on the Farm with Chef Ryan Skinner: A Benefit Dinner for DMACC Culinary Art Program
Please join us on the farm Sunday, September 13th for dinner with Chef Ryan Skinner of DMACC Culinary Arts. This dinner is very exciting for us because we plan to donate $20 from every ticket purchased to the DMACC program. When Whitney was in high school, she participated in culinary art classes through DMACC so we are excited to make a donation to this incredible program that central Iowa is lucky to have! Chef Ryan will be bringing along a few passionate students to learn about the farm to table experience. Tickets are $175 and available August 13th!
Chef Ryan has over 15 years of experience working across, casual, high-volume, farm to table and Michelin starred restaurants. He is an ICI alum and recipient of the Marge Anderson French Culinary Scholarship. Previously, he served as the chef of Harbinger and most recently opened Tom Arhcer’s Supper Club. He now is an instructor at ICI. His cooking is rooted in making pasta by hand, cooking with the seasons and building strong relationships with local farmers.

Whitney lived for a short time in Decorah and if you ask her she will tell you that one of her favorite restaurants in Iowa is La Rana Bistro in Decorah. Since it is always such a challenge to venture off the farm to visit Decorah and dine at La Rana, we are thrilled to announce the Chef Carina will be making her way to Des Moines and will be bringing the magic of La Rana with her this September! Mark your calendars because this is a meal you do not want to miss!
Carina Cavagnaro is chef/owner of La Rana Bistro, an intimate 34-seat restaurant located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Decorah. Her menu incorporates French, Mediterranean, and Asian flavors into local favorites. Carina brought nearly 20 years of experience to La Rana when she purchased and refreshed the popular local eatery. She is committed to creating a thriving community where local farmers, businesses, staff and patrons feel celebrated and enlivened.

Chef Megan is from Clarinda and attended culinary school at Kirkwood Community College. Her first job out out of school was at Proof, Downtown Des Moines in 2018.She participated in the Culinary Fight Night and after 4 rounds of competing she won the competition. She became the pastry chef at Proof before landing her current job as Sous Chef at Either/Or. She enjoys tasting menu style dinners where she can showcase her skill and creativity and is looking forward to cooking at Grade A this summer!

She always does such a wonderful job highlighting the seasonal vegetables from our farm and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for this dinner.
Katie Porter is the chef/owner of Seasonal Palate, where she provides cooking classes, private events, and farm dinners around town as well as camping trips with Wander Women. Katie has been in the culinary industry for 25 years. Originally from Mt. Ayr, Iowa she got her start at the American Culinary Federation of Colorado Mountain College and has held culinary positions across the country and internationally before returning to Iowa. Katie highlights local foods in her cooking and values the relationships she has built with Iowa producers.

Grade A Contra Dance
Do you like bluegrass music? Do you like to dance? Do you like a good time? If you answered yes to any of those questions then join us for our first ever CONTRA DANCE! Contra dancing is like barn dancing but way more fun! Popular in Appalachia and California, we are bringing this fun event to our farm on Saturday, June 14th! You do NOT need to know how to dance to contra dance! That is the beauty of it. There is a “caller” who calls the steps as you go. Everyone dancing learns the dance together! Trust me, it is not as hard as it may seem!!! Tickets available at the door.

We are pleased to announce that Chef Katie Porter will be returning to Grade A Gardens for our August farm dinner. Chef Katie is a fan favorite and always does a wonderful job showcasing our produce. We are partnering for this dinner with Grand View Beef Farm and Chef Katie will be highlighting their amazing 100% grass-fed beef. Owners Knute and Amanda Severson will also be joining us at the table for dinner to share a little bit about their farm. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to the farm for this dinner. These passionate chefs will be highlighting some of Iowa’s best pork producers, Ethan and Becca Book of Crooked Gap Farm in Knoxville, Iowa. We love everyone involved in this dinner and it should be a night to remember. Arrival is at 4:30pm followed by appetizers, a farm tour and dinner. We are thrilled to announce Chef Brett McClavy of the Cheese Bar of Des Moines and CJ Beinert of the Cheese Shop of Des Moines are pairing up for our early June dinner. These fun-guys will be doing a mushroom focused dinner (see what I did there?). Guests will be encouraged to join Jordan on a guided mushroom hunt beforehand at Kuehn Conservation. Grab your partner and Do Si Do!! We are very excited to announce that we are having our first ever CONTRA DANCE in our barn! Grab your friends and family (or come by yourself as you don’t need to bring a partner) and come dance the night away! No experience is necessary as is custom of contra dancing. All dances are taught and called (meaning you don’t need previous experience dancing!) We promise you will have fun! Don’t feel like dancing? Then you are still welcome to come just to listen to music by the BARN OWL BAND! Admission is $10/adults and $5/children.
