Meet the Farmers

IMG_7714Jordan Clasen, 29, has had a long passion for good, quality produce. He began to work with produce at the age of 14 at a local grocery store.  Before taking the leap to full-time farmer, Jordan spent the past 5 years managing a produce department for the Gateway Market & Café – a specialty grocery store in Des Moines.  With a strong focus on local and organic produce, he was able to work with some of Iowa’s finest producers.

Grade A Gardens sprouted in 2009 when Jordan began farming a half acre of 5,000 garlic plants.  Fast forward 5 years and Grade A Gardens is cultivating 6 acres of organically grown fruits and vegetables and markets through a 60-member CSA, Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market, specialty grocers, and Des Moines’ top restaurants.

Jordan hopes to play a key role in building a stronger local food system in Iowa for many years to come.

Whitney Brewer, 27, joined Grade A Gardens in 2016.  Her past experience working with FoodCorps and Grinnell Heritage Farms makes her a great addition to the team.
